8 Products for a Healthy New Year

I don’t know about you, but I see January 1st as a clean slate to start a healthy new year. Making New Year resolutions is easy… but keeping them and being consistent… well that’s a whole other thing.  Life is busier than ever, we have more distractions and stress than ever, and it’s hard to stay consistent. Instead of making New Year resolutions, I plan to focus on bringing cleaner, mindful products into our family, and work on my own mind, body and spirit.

Jumping into the new year like…

I plan to use these 8 products to help me stay on track to living a clean, sustainable life (at least for a couple of months anyway).

*Some of these products may have been sent for consideration but all opinions are my own

1. Owyn Dark Chocolate Protein Drink and bars

I often rely on protein bars to replace a meal, but find myself grabbing bars that aren’t exactly filled with nutrients.  They either taste like cardboard, or like a snickers bar. I’ve recently discovered these plant-based protein bars (since I’m trying to cut out animal protein whenever possible) and I found one that is (hide from the kids) delicious! OWYN 100% Plant-Based protein bars are delicious, and combine pumpkin seed, pea protein, and chia, so you benefit from a complete profile of all 9 essential amino acids (the building blocks of protein) which help maintain and development of muscle, hair, skin, and nails.

I give the boys a protein shake most days, and they love love love this chocolate protein shake. They said it’s not ‘chalky’ at all and doesn’t have a weird after-taste like many protein powders we’ve tried.

2. Bulgarian Rose Oil

My signature perfume is rose oil.  I absolutely adore the light, feminine, floral smells, but aside from the gorgeous scent, there are many health benefits associated with rose oil. For a start it boosts self-esteem, confidence, and mental strength, while efficiently fighting depression.

Rose Oil is also known to calm redness on the skin, moisturize and is filled with anti-aging properties.  I usually buy my rose oil online at rosesbg.com, since they have a fantastic selection of rose oil, skin products and rose oil parfum.  I plan to continue to use rose oil for all of the health benefits mentioned, but also because I simply love the scent.  And it makes me feel happy.  And I am going to hold tight to products that make me happy in 2019.

3. Yo Mama Pasta Sauce

Yo Mama’s team produces all-natural pasta sauces and salad dressing using the simplest, most natural ingredients. If you haven’t tasted Yo Mama’s pasta sauce, you haven’t lived.  The delicious flavor, simple labeling, and absolutely no preservatives, created a sauce that your own mother would feed you.  You can find it in Whole Foods, or online here, and I promise you won’t be disappointed!

4. Imperfect Produce

If you have teenage boys, you know how much they (and their friends!!!) eat. It’s quite easy for the food budget to get out of control.  Did you know approximately 20% of fruits and vegetables in the U.S. never leave the farm, just because they look a little different.  I’ve recently started getting ‘ugly’ produce delivered to my house.  I mean, let’s face it… I chop, slice and dice it anyway. I now receive 10 – 12 pounds of healthy, delicious fruits and veggies for about 30% less than grocery stores, delivered right to my door.  I have the option to customize each delivery to ensure we’re getting the items we’ll eat delivered. The farmer is rewarded for his full harvest, the food and the resources used to grow it weren’t wasted, and I get delicious, healthy, affordable fruits and veggies for my family delivered to my doorstep! #winning

5. Organic Tumeric Powder

Turmeric is having a moment right now.  Lately people are saying it can prevent anything from arthritis to cancer. It’s liberally used in Asia to treat cuts, wounds and blemishes on the skin. A paste of turmeric and cream is sometimes applied to the face as part of regular skin care.

Tumeric has also been an ingredient in curry for years, and gives it that nice yellow color and rich flavor (although be sure not to get it on your white t-shirt!)  I order my tumeric from Sari Foods, where their mission is to deliver highly nutritious, plant-based and pure foods and sustenance – just as nature intended. I am excited to incorporate this into our daily diet this year, and plan to add a little everyday to our food.

6. Laird Superfood Creamer

I am trying to incorporate more of a plant based diet for my family.  Unless you live under a rock, the benefits and studies of plant based diets are everywhere, and have been linked to lower risk of obesity,  heart disease, type 2 diabetes, inflammation and cancer.  However my diets historically have been epic fails, then I’m filled with the cycle of self-loathing blah blah blah… so instead of saying we are now going plant-based, I’m going to make small changes every days. (Something is better than nothing… right?!?)

I drink coffee every morning, and tea throughout the day, and I’ve found this DELICIOUS Laird (Yes, the big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton who is married to Gabby Reece!) Superfood Creamer.  This creamer is non-dairy, GMO-free, gluten-free, a vegan alternative to traditional creamers.  I get mine online here, but you can also find it in Lazy Acres, the new natural supermarket to open in Hermosa Beach!  Additionally, if you order online and use code: SAMKUHR you can get free shipping!

7. Rahua Elixir

I plan to treat my hair more kindly in 2019. I don’t spend lots of time (or money) on my hair at all, and look for really great products that actually work.  I cannot rave about Rahua elixir oil more.

This magical bottle repairs, strengthens and restores damaged hair, promotes growth and protects my scalp.  It is not inexpensive at all, but it’s worth every penny because it WORKS! It soaks into the hair and makes my kinky/frizzy hair silky. My hair feels bouncy and light even with this oil. I use 1-2 small drops while my hair is damp,  and it makes all the difference!

8. Take Time for ME each day for a healthy new year

I recently discovered from my good friend Jen Ross, over at PrettyNeatLiving, a great YouTube Channel for mediation and exercise. Boho Beautiful is a travel yoga lifestyle channel that creates positive content for your body, mind, and the earth. Yoga, Wanderlust, Fitness, Vegan food, Conscious Living, and Meditation!
