Relaxation and Adventure at Sirenian Bay Resort in Belize

When Belize announced they were opening up to vaccinated tourists during the Covid-19 pandemic, we did a happy dance and began to plan our trip to Belize. We were looking for part relaxation to decompress from the past year and part adventure. We decided to stay at Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas, an all-inclusive resort we found to relax, decompress, and be pampered. This stunning boutique resort is located on the Placencia Peninsula in southern Belize.

Travel to Belize City airport, small and easy to navigate

It was easy to navigate from Belize City since there’s only one road to get there, and after about three hours, as we drove into this gorgeous property, we could hardly contain our excitement. (Note: there is no reason to stop at, see, or visit Belize City, especially with kids.)

From the moment we arrived, we felt like family. As we enjoyed ice-cold complimentary welcome drinks from Snooty’s Bar and observed the strict Covid protocols being followed, the stress from the past year immediately began to melt away.

We stayed in the Marlin Bungalow and enjoyed the stunning ocean and beach views from our private balcony. These bungalows are modern, luxurious, spacious and comfortable, and filled with everything you could possibly need. The flower arrangement and handwritten welcome note in our bungalow when we arrived was a lovely touch.

The Sirenian Bay property is kept in pristine condition, filled with fresh flowers, and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the refreshing pool, the swim-up bar, Inky’s restaurant filled with fresh seafood and local dishes, and the magical open beach area.

During our stay, we started the day with some activity and exercise in the resort’s on-site gym. The gym room was bigger than most hotels, and it had an incredible set of new, state-of-the-art equipment. We also used the complimentary kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes. The spa is also available for massages and facial treatments to relax and decompress.

Most days we relaxed poolside with a cold drink from Snooty’s Bar, swam in the pristine water and enjoyed the fresh, local food. The resort arranged for us to take the popular Monkey River Tour through Captain Jaks, which was simply incredible – I highly recommend you allocate some time for this when you are in Placencia. You can read more about that tour here.

Sirenian Bay: Fantastic Service

The Sirenian Bay Resort staff were on hand to look after our every need. They seemed to know what we wanted before WE knew we wanted it. We had breakfast and fresh coffee delivered to our private patio each morning, and the all-inclusive food was always fresh and delicious.

Most importantly, as we were living with Covid-19, Sirenian Bay Resort made us feel safe with sanitized items in the reception and restaurant areas and automated sanitizer dispensers around the resort grounds.

If you are looking for somewhere to relax, recharge, and feel safe, Sirenian Bay Resort delivers on all levels. Amazing customer service, beautiful property, and the staff were fantastic. Special thank you to Tobie and the Sirenian Bay Resort team for making our first trip post-Covid easy to plan. We felt safe and relaxed from the minute we stepped onto the property.

What activities and excursions are available?

There are all sorts of activities and excursions for adults and older kids at Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas. Besides the Monkey River Tour, which was an absolute hit, the resort has many things to do. Diving, snorkeling, and cultural tours are all here. To book, a simple chat with the resort’s concierge does the trick. They’re on the ball, ready to tailor your days to be as action-packed or as chill as you like. And kayaks, paddleboards, volleyballs, and soccer goals are all there to use any time.

What is the dining experience like at Sirenian Bay?

The dining experience at Sirenian Bay is top-notch. Inky’s restaurant serves local food that’s fresh and full of flavor, and Snooty’s Bar is the go-to for a drink that hits the spot. They’re pretty accommodating with dietary needs, too. Just let them know what you’re after, and they’ll do their best to help. Looking for something a bit more special, like a dinner under the stars? They can arrange that too, making for an evening you won’t forget.

What are the transportation options for getting to and from Sirenian Bay?

Getting to the resort might seem like a bit of a puzzle, but it’s much smoother than you’d think. Flying into Belize City, you have a couple of options to reach the resort. We learned about the resort’s transfer service, which seemed comfortable and would take the hassle out of the journey. You just need to let them know you need a transfer when you book. If you’re up for driving, car rentals are available and that’s what we did, as we wanted to explore Mayan ruins and stay in the Mayan jungle. But if you’re only going to stay at the resort, the transfer service might be the best option for you.

Can you scuba dive or snorkel near the Sirenian Bay Resort?

Yes! Belize’s Barrier Reef offers some of the most breathtaking underwater diving and snorkeling on the planet. The reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is filled with a huge variety of marine life, vibrant corals, and mesmerizing underwater landscapes that is suitable for divers of all skill levels. We wanted to see whale sharks, but weren’t that lucky.

In Placencia, you’ll find several dive shops that are ecologically friendly. Splash Dive Center and Belize Pro Dive Center both have PADI certification courses, dive packages, and even excursions to the famed Blue Hole (which is not near Placentia, it’s farther north).
