The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation was founded by the Miller Family to honor Jimmy Miller, a special waterman who died by suicide after a rapid onset of mental illness. All of the proceeds from the BeneFiesta will help provide support for at risk youth, veterans and Marines that are served by JMMF, and allow them to experience the healing power of Ocean Therapy. Ocean Therapy combines group talk therapy on the calming beach led by a licensed therapist, along with surf therapy. Surf therapy offers an experience-based approach to trauma recovery, and JMMF helps veterans and under-served kids build happy memories and new sources of joy to slowly replace the memories of their trauma.
This year’s event honored Col Martin, commander of the Wounded Warrior Battalion-West at Camp Pendleton, with the JMMF Pure Surfing Award for his dedication and support of Ocean Therapy for Military Veterans mental and physical health. Liz and Scott Whitehead were honored with the JMMF Legacy Award for their long-standing support for the JMMF.
Guests were treated to live musical performances, delicious food, bottomless cocktails, a performance by the Water Lillies and a live auction.
