I recently visited the newly opened Hotel Centro Sonoma Wine Country — a new property in the Tapestry by Hilton collection – and what a treat. It’s brand-spanking new (it opened in April 2024), and it’s fresh and fabulous! Hotel Centro Sonoma is literally in the heart of Sonoma wine country – it’s easy to get to and centrally located. It’s the perfect base to explore the local vineyards of Sonoma County or simply relax in a stylish setting.

The hotel lobby is gorgeous and filled with lovely artwork, and the new furniture and fixtures are light, bright, and calming. You can’t help but feel the sleek and modern vibes as soon as you walk through the lobby doors.

Review: The Hotel Centro Sonoma

As we exited the freeway and drove onto the Hotel Centro property, we were surrounded by the natural beauty of the area, instantly washing away the stress of our long (6+ hour) drive from L.A. The hotel vibe was modern and casual, and it’s close to lots of local vineyards. The friendly staff gave us a warm welcome (that included the lovely ice-cold Hilton bottle of water at check-in), and we were in our room within minutes.

Our room felt spacious, bright, and incredibly comfy. There was a table in the room along with a lovely king bed, and I settled into the chaise lounge to finish up some work. There were ample workspaces for the two of us to take care of some last-minute emails before exploring Sonoma County.

Hotel Centro Sonoma Amenities

The hotel is packed with convenient amenities:

  • On-site Restaurant –  Overland Tap & Kitchen serves food that captures the taste of Wine Country. Think fresh flavors and cool cocktails.
  • Fitness Center – Perfect for working off those wine and dine calories, and the weight room is fab.
  • Seasonal Outdoor Pool –  Nothing beats a dip in a lovely pool after a day of wine tasting.
  • Free Parking and EV Charging – Super convenient if you’re on a long road trip like us.
  • Digital Key and Hilton Honors Perks – Make check-in a breeze and the stay even sweeter.

Driving all the way from Los Angeles to Seattle, we needed a beautiful mid-point to break up the journey, and Sonoma felt like the perfect spot. Hotel Centro Sonoma has easy access to the freeway to get around Sonoma, making it convenient for golf, wine country, shopping, restaurants, and relaxing.

Hotel Centro Sonoma is less than a mile from the Graton Casino, and it’s about a 35-minute drive to the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley. Plus, being close to Oakland and San Francisco, it gives you the option to add some city excursions to your trip.

What makes Hotel Centro Sonoma stand out is the blend of rustic charm and the sophisticated vibe of the Tapestry by Hilton collection. Tapestry by Hilton is a unique collection of hotels offering an authentic and stylish experience, combining local charm with Hilton’s trusted hospitality. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel instantly relaxed. And Hilton Honors members can snag some great deals right now with bonus points to celebrate the grand opening (1,00o points a night!).

Top 5 Things to Do in Sonoma Valley Wine Country

1. Visit the local Vineyards and Wineries

With over 400 wineries to choose from, Sonoma County is a paradise for wine lovers. My personal favorite is Benziger Family Winery, where the Biodynamic Tractor Tram Tour shares fascinating insights into sustainable winemaking practices.

2. Explore Sonoma Plaza – it’s close to Hotel Centro Sonoma

This historic town square in the heart of Sonoma is filled with charming boutiques, tasting rooms, and quaint cafes. Check out the Sonoma Cheese Factory for some tasty local cheeses!

3. Hike in the Jack London State Historic Park

If you love nature and history, this beautiful park is a short 30-minute drive from Hotel Centro Sonoma. It’s the home and ranch of Jack London, famous for his literary work and adventurous travels. You’re able to hike or mountain bike on scenic trails and explore the historic buildings, including the ruins of Jack London’s dream house, his gravesite, and The Beauty Ranch. It’s worth the drive to see the valley views – they are seriously breathtaking!

4. Grab an Old Caz Beer

Sonoma isn’t just about the wine – Old Caz Beer opened a new taproom and brewpub recently, just two miles from Hotel Centro Sonoma. Old Caz Beer, named after a rugged road (Cazadero) in Sonoma County, is literally a labor of love for the founders, Bryan and Tom. Meeting in college and sharing a love of nature, great beer, and mountain biking, they worked tirelessly to bring their dreams to life. Their mission was to create beers that fill the soul with the wonder and beauty of Sonoma County, and they really do have a beer for every taste.

We spent the evening with Bryan (one of the founders), who shared stories of trying to build a business during the pandemic, running out of money and downloading a free 30-day trial of Illustrator to create his own logo since they had no design/marketing money, and driving all over California to uninstall free brewing equipment from places donating since they were going out of business. Not to mention, the founders built practically everything by hand from scraps of wood and piping leftover from other jobs. The hubs was in heaven sampling the beers, and personally, I think he was living vicariously through Bryan’s colorful stories!

If you’re an IPA fan, this is your place – there are so many flavors and varieties. His fave was the (gold medal-winning!) Chismosa –  a Mexican Amber Lager that, to quote Bryan, “is a crushable everyday beer”. It’s light like a Dos Equis Amber yet still has the body and malt profile of a strong beer. I loved the Lavender Radler –  a light and refreshing ‘kettle sour.’ It’s different from a typical sour as it’s low alcohol, refreshing and dangerously approachable – perfect for sipping poolside or on the golf course. I cannot stress how much fun you’ll have when you visit Old Caz for yourself!

For food options at Old Caz, they serve lunch daily from 12-3 pm, and for dinner, you are welcome to bring your own food or have something delivered to the taproom. OR you can grab food from one of the local food trucks that are scheduled most days. Don’t miss the chance to experience their delish brews when you are in the Sonoma area, and be sure to ask if Bryan’s around for a chat. ;-)

4. Relax at a Sonoma Spa

If you’re in Sonoma to relax, this is the place for you. After a day of wine tasting and exploring, treat yourself to some pampering at one of the many spas. The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn has a luxurious spa with natural mineral hot springs, thermal pools, and rejuvenating treatments. You can also enjoy fine dining and a championship golf course.

Surrounding towns like Healdsburg and Windsor are lovely, too. They’re perfect for enjoying the wine country vibes and local delicious restaurants. Santa Rosa is just 10 miles away, and San Francisco and Oakland are also a short drive, leaving you with plenty to explore.

Hi! I’m Samantha

I share family travel, destination guides, honest reviews, and the realities of life after breast cancer. It’s sometimes lovely, sometimes messy, but always authentic, and told with my dry (and sometimes naughty) British sense of humor.

  • I forgot how easy San Diego is for a quick getaway from LA. We recently drove down, stayed at Hilton San Diego Bayfront, and caught a Padres game.⚾️

The hotel is right on the bay, close to downtown, Coronado, the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, and Petco Park. If you’re going to a Padres game, the location is honestly perfect. We walked from the hotel, over the pedestrian bridge, and straight to the ballpark.

The newly renovated rooms are lovely and have everything that matters: a comfy bed, great pillows, and a separate sitting area. I’m not the easiest sleeper, but I actually slept here, which is always my true test.

We ate a delish dinner at Hudson & Nash, the hotel’s signature restaurant with bay views, firepits, World Cup games at the bar, fab seafood, and a cioppino loaded with lobster. 🦞🌅☀️

Definitely ask for a table by the firepits if you can.

Hilton San Diego Bayfront is perfect for a couple’s weekend, a family stay, or a Padres getaway. Easy drive, gorgeous location, and no airport stress.
This stay was kindly hosted by Hilton San Diego Bayfront.. and yes, I would absolutely go back.

  • Welcome - my blog got a facelift…bless her…she was looking a little tired💕

There are lots of new faces around here, so I thought I’d introduce myself and tell you why My Travelling Circus exists.

I’ve always dreamed of being a travel writer. Long before Instagram, TikTok, influencers, affiliate links, or even the idea that you could make a living online.
Back then, it was just a place to share stories and photos from our travels. 🌎

Then life took a wobble. At a routine doctor’s appointment, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a dark time. My boys were young, and I genuinely didn’t know what the future would hold. During treatment and recovery, I spent a lot of time in bed. So I started writing. I documented everything. The cancer journey. Family life. The places we’d traveled. The memories we’d made. 💕🌸

To be honest, I think part of me was creating a little corner of the internet where our stories, our photos, and the adventures we’d shared together would live….Just in case I didn’t. Twelve years later, I’m still here. (woot woot!) 🙏

The boys are now young men. Social media exploded. The internet changed. And somehow, this little blog grew alongside it. What started as a personal project became a business, a community, and one of the greatest surprises of my life. Today, My Travelling Circus is where I share family travel, destination guides, travel tips, honest reviews, wellness, family stuff, and life after breast cancer.
And if you’ve found your way here, I’m so happy to have you.

If you’d like to follow along, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d subscribe to my newsletter. I promise not to fill your inbox with junk...just stories, travel inspiration, and the occasional adventure.🌸💕 (link in bio)

Thank you for being here.

Broadway shows, piano bars, late-night drinks rotating the city, and somehow squeezing in actual work. New York really is the city that never sleeps. Let’s do it again!

  • I love finding restaurants that are fun for a group dinner and @descansorestaurant is the perfect spot. We did the Plancha dining experience, where the chefs cook everything right on the sizzling grill at your table, and it feels like dinner and entertainment rolled into one.🔥
.
Our carne asada and Pork Loin Alambre were cooked to our preference right in front of us, and the food was fresh, flavorful, and somehow didn’t feel heavy at all.
.
And the cocktails… very cool cocktail menu. We tried the Coco Verano (with Don Fulano Blanco, Cointreau, Fresh Coconut, Pressed Coconut Water, Agave, Lime) and the house fav. Cucumber + Sal (El Tesoro Blanco Tequila, Chareau Aloe Liqueur, Cucumber, Cilantro, Lime and Black Sea Salt). The margaritas were very much flowing at our table.🍋‍🟩
.
The whole experience is social, interactive, and feels like sitting around a taco stand with friends while everything’s cooking fresh in front of you… which actually is where the founders took their inspiration 🇲🇽
.
Descanso has locations in LA and Costa Mesa and is perfect for birthdays, date nights, girls’ dinners, or taking out-of-town guests who want a fun LA dinner experience. Save room for dessert… or settle into their very impressive tequila bar for an after-dinner drink.🍸

  • Lucky me - I got to spend Mother’s Day under the sea watching The Little Mermaid at the Nocturne Theater in Glendale with my very own Sebastian❤️
.
The theater is staged in-the-round, so the entire undersea world happens all around you, with the characters sometimes only a couple of feet from the audience. The costumes are gorgeous and beautifully designed to bring the underwater world to life. There was even a performer doing aerial acrobatics on an aerial rope above the stage. And of course, you already know the songs…the pure voice of @jennamaewhite as Ariel is Disney magic 🐠🦀
.
One of my favorite parts was watching the little girls arrive in their Ariel dresses, beside themselves with excitement, and at the end, the cast came out to meet them and take photos…so lovely 💕
.
Such a sweet way to spend the afternoon with my boy. If you grew up loving The Little Mermaid, definitely try to see this one before it leaves Glendale.

  • Four countries, no backtracking - our Balkans road trip was fabulous. Here’s the loop we drove:🇭🇷🇧🇦🇲🇪🇦🇱🇭🇷
- Flew into Dubrovnik (Croatia)
- Dubrovnik to Mostar (Bosnia & Herzegovina)
- Down through Kotor and Budva (Montenegro)
- Over to Shkodër (Albania)
- Back to Dubrovnik (drop boys at the airport)
- Dubrovnik to Korčula Island (Croatia)
- Korčula to Split (Croatia)
- Split to Dubrovnik (Croatia)

We explored coastlines, islands, mountain roads, old towns… so much culture packed into two weeks. I mapped the full route and shared exactly how we did it (what I’d do again vs skip) over on the blog - link in bio if you’re thinking about it.🌍
